Brunel family only acquired Chateau de la Gardine

Chateau de la Gardine Rasteau 2021
Though the Brunel family only acquired Chateau de la Gardine in 1945, they have been producing wine in the Chateauneuf du Pape region since the 17th century. Founder Gaston Brunel discovered an ancient bottle design while expanding the cellar, inspiring the iconic bottle shape crafted in Italy and used for all their wines today. The estate is now managed by Gaston’s sons, their wives, and grandchildren, who oversee 52 hectares of primarily black grape vineyards and 20 hectares of woodland supporting biodiversity. This fruit-forward Rasteau bursts with rich dark berries, winter spices, and hints of dried violets from ripe Grenache and Syrah grapes co-fermented and aged in stainless steel and cement tanks. The fruit comes from vines aged 4 to 60 years on the lower slopes of Mont Ventoux, where mountain breezes preserve freshness and elegance. This red pairs well with charcuterie, tomato pasta, barbecue meats, and hearty stews.

Owned by the Halley family since 2012, who also run Chateau de Meursault, the estate has moved to organic farming. This Pinot Noir sources grapes from prime Cote d’Or sites, yielding a pale ruby wine with aromas of bright red berries, sweet spices, and earthiness. The palate balances lively acidity with wild raspberry, blackberry, and tart cherry flavors supported by deep earthy notes. It pairs wonderfully with soft spicy cheeses, mushroom risotto, or rich salmon steak.

Chateau de Marsannay Marsannay Es Chezots 2021

The fruit comes from the 2-hectare Es Chezots vineyard with sandy, clay soils between two valleys. Chateau de Marsannay, on Burgundy’s “Route des Grand Crus,” has been organic since 2021. The silky yet powerful palate features round tannins and notes of cherry, raspberry, violet, cinnamon, forest floor, and star anise. With good acidity and length, it finishes mineral-rich. It pairs excellently with poultry, red meats, or rich chocolate cake.
